Indecency Comment Deadline Extended

The FCC has extended the deadline by a month for the public and broadcasters to file comments on potential revisions to the FCC’s current indecency enforcement policy. The new deadline is June 19, 2013, with reply comments due July 18, 2013. Comments should be filed electronically.

Among other things, the Commission wants input on how they should treat isolated expletives in light of existing legal precedent that expletives must be deliberate and repetitive to warrant action. Also up for comment — whether isolated,  non-sexual nudity should be treated the same as or differently than isolated expletives. Currently, isolated expletives and brief non-sexual nudity are prohibited and the FCC will take action if such matters are broadcast.
